Admiralty Beach

Recommended type of dive: Shore

How to dive this site: The rocky beach of Admiralty Bay drops off quickly from a 15' shelf at high tide down to 45 - 60', depending on the tide. At the bottom of the drop off is a sandy bottom littered with bottles and old tires which give homes to an abundance of sea life. Admiralty Beach is a great site for a drift dive during a flood current. The water in the bay almost always flows in the same direction. Both during flood and ebb tides the current moves to the west with the exception of the beginning of a large flood movement when the current will move to the east. The flood hugs the beach and therefore is more optimal for drift diving than an ebb current, which may pull you away from the shore. To start your dive, enter the water and drop down to the bottom in roughly 50 - 60' of water, once there, ride the current along the length of the beach and come back up the rocky slope when it is time to exit. Once out of the water, you may walk back up to the park road and get your vehicle or have someone pick you up.

Directions to the site: From Oak Harbor - Follow SR20 South to Coupeville. Once there, turn right onto Main Street, follow it towards the Keystone Ferry. Main Street will turn into Engle Road. Follow Engle past the ferry landing and Keystone Underwater Park. Continue on until turning right onto one of the two park entrance roads.

From Clinton - Follow Highway 525 North until turning right onto Wanamaker Road, just after Admirals Cove. Follow Wanamaker onto Keystone Road. Continue towards the ferry landing. Shortly after Keystone Avenue. Pull into Driftwood Park where parking is available.
