Recommended type of dive: Shore and Boat

How to dive this site: Before attempting to dive this site, consult the Whidbey Island Dive Center staff or a knowledgeable person with experience in diving here. You will need to make an accurate prediction of preferably a lengthy slack tide. You should have your equipment ready and be "on station" 30 minutes before predicted slack and be prepared to wait until slack is visible, which may be 30 minutes later than predicted.

As a shore dive - Gear up in the upper parking lot of the North Beach area inside Deception Pass State Park. Pack your equipment down to the beach. Once slack starts, enter the water close to the rocks on the right side of the beach. This tiny cove is somewhat protected even on a flood current. Orientate your compass to mark your return course and make your descent.

As a boat dive - The best method for diving from a boat is to start your dive east of the bridge and head west along the rocks towards the bridge. Plan to end your dive in the protected cove to the west of the bridge. Have your boat pick you up here.

HAZARDS: Strong currents, fast moving boat traffic, fishing lines.

Directions to the site: GPS Coordinates: N. 48 24.338 W. 122 39.275.

As a shore dive - From the north: head south on SR20 until passing over Deception Pass Bridge onto Whidbey Island. Once on Whidbey Island, take the first right turn into Deception Pass State Park. Next take another right into the North Beach area. Park in the upper parking lot. From the south: head north from Oak Harbor on SR20. Just before reaching the bridge turn left into Deception Pass State Park. Next, take a left into the North Beach area. Park in the upper parking lot. Note: The north beach parking lot entrance is closed for the winter from October 1 through April 1 of each year. Hiking down to the beach from the gate is not advised.

As a boat dive - Launch from Deception Pass Marina and head towards Deception Pass between Fidalgo and Whidbey Island.
